CALL FOR PAPERS: 43rd Saint Louis Conference on Manuscript Studies (14-15 October 2016)

Proposals should address the material aspects of late antique, medieval, or Renaissance manuscripts. Papers are twenty minutes in length and a full session normally consists of three papers. UNT 2016 Medieval Graduate Symposium

The annual graduate symposium on Medieval Studies at the University of North Texas provides a platform for graduate students of any discipline to present their work on any aspect of the Middle Ages. 

This year's theme is "The Technical Details of Everyday Life." Submissions for papers on any topic from the Late Antique to the Early Renaissance will be considered. Preference will be given to those that address the conference theme. 

The symposium will be held March 3rd and 4th, 2016 at the University of North Texas, Denton, TX.

The keynote speaker for 2016 is Nicola Coldstream, "Behind the Scenes at the Medieval Entertainment."

300-word abstracts are due December 1, 2015 via email to Mickey.Abel@unt.edu

There will also be a $200 prize sponsored by AVISTA for an outstanding paper.

Penn seeks a scholar-teacher with wide-ranging interests in the visual arts and architecture of the medieval period (700-1400). Teaching responsibilities include lectures and seminars in specialty, plus participation in survey courses as well as first-year and methods seminars. Completion of Ph.D. is expected prior to appointment. Art Historian, Art of the Ancient Mediterranean to 750 CE

The program in Art History at Fordham University seeks to hire an art historian with a specialty in the art of the ancient Mediterranean region, up to ca. 750 CE. The Director of Byzantine Studies reports to the Director of Dumbarton Oaks and oversees the Byzantine Study Program at Dumbarton Oaks. The Director of Studies supports the Byzantine Fellows (who are resident for the academic year, a term, or the summer and pursue their own research) and organizes scholarly meetings such as symposia, colloquia, and lectures.

Deadline extended to 9/25 for Crossing the Hanseatic Threshold and Beyond

For this session, we invite papers that address artistic circulation, mobility, exchange, networks, identity, media, and/or patronage in the Hanseatic arena. We welcome both specific case studies as well as papers that interrogate larger questions on ‘Hanseatic art’, Hanse art historical historiography, and the self-fashioning of Hanse merchants or patrons. Along these lines, papers could also explore artistic links between the Hanse and other trade networks or more generally, art and mercantile trade in littoral and riverine towns in Europe, c. 1200-1500.
