ICMA-Pop-Ups: Edinburgh on 8 September

August 20, 2021

It has been over a year since ICMA members have been able to gather in person, but there are some areas of the ICMA orbit in which colleagues are emerging from the period of social distancing. And so, with cautious optimism, and as local conditions allow, the ICMA Membership Committee encourages you to organize informal gatherings of ICMA members. Any type of event bringing members together would be great -- a visit to a museum or special exhibition in your area; a picnic in a local park; morning coffee or evening cocktails. The inaugural event will be a Coptic-Stitch Binding Workshop (with studio tour) at the Kalamazoo Arts Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There are also plans in progress for events in Savannah, Philadelphia, and Vienna.

You come up with the idea! We’ll give you the email addresses of ICMA members in your area and help you plan! All we ask is that you take some pics and write a brief blurb of your Pop-Up event for a feature in ICMA News.

Organizers of ICMA-Pop-Ups should understand and follow the health protocols in their area and be sensitive to the preferences and concerns of participants.

If you’re interested, please contact Martha Easton (martha.e.easton@gmail.com), Chair of the Membership Committee, and Ryan Frisinger (ryan@medievalart.org), Executive Director.

Kalamazoo
Coptic-Stitch Binding Workshop (with studio tour)
Kalamazoo Book Arts Center
(box lunches provided)

About the event:
The coptic-bound book dates back almost 2,000 years, originating in Egypt and used by the Copts. This style of binding uses a chain link-stitch along an exposed spine, creating a book that is ideal for journaling or sketching as the pages lie completely flat when opened. For your cover, choose from KBAC’s selection of decorative paper, or bring along your own to further personalize your book. This workshop is led by Katie Platte, printmaker and KBAC's Studio Manager.

Space is limited to 12 participants. Sign up to grab a spot now!
Each ICMA member may register up to one guest.

All MDHHS guidelines concerning physical distancing and masking will be observed.
