Liturgical and Paraliturgical Hymnology in East and West

The Mary Jaharis Center for Byzantine Art and Culture at Hellenic College Holy Cross is pleased to announce an upcoming symposium “Liturgical and Paraliturgical Hymnology in East and West” to be held a Hellenic College Holy Cross, 50 Goddard Avenue, Brookline, MA, on November 11, 2016, from 9:30am–1:30pm.

In this symposium, liturgical scholars and musical practitioners present papers discussing themes of poetry and song in the medieval and contemporary religious and musical traditions of Judaism and Christianity.

Call for Papers: "Hoards"

The Richard Rawlinson Center for Anglo-Saxon Studies and Manuscript Research seeks papers for a session on hoards at the 52nd International Congress on Medieval Studies (May 11-14, 2017). Paper proposals should be directed to Elizabeth Teviotdale (e.teviotdale@att.net). The deadline for proposals is September 15.

Greek Manuscripts in the British Library

The conference will be accompanied by an evening lecture by Michael Wood on ‘The Wisdom of the Greeks’. Michael will be looking at how the legacy of Greece and Byzantium in science, religion and literature was transmitted to the Latin West.

Abstracts of 250-300 words are due August 31, 2016 via e-mail at mrgsaosu@gmail.com. All submissions should include the title of the paper, the abstract, as well as the name, the institutional affiliation, and contact information of the author. Chosen participants will be notified by e-mail no later than September 12, 2016. A $100 prize will be presented to the best paper at the conference.
