50th Anniversary Endowment Campaign
In celebration of our fiftieth anniversary in 2006 and to
ensure the continued fiscal health of our learned society,
the International Center of Medieval Art launched a Fiftieth
Anniversary Endowment Campaign. We are pleased to announce that we
have reached our goal of raising $850,000 for the ICMA’s endowment!
The success of the campaign will directly fund our many efforts
in support of the study of medieval art. Publications like Gesta
and our Monograph Series, in tandem with ICMA-sponsored lectures
and sessions at annual conferences, will continue to shape the discourse
and move our discipline forward.
We also offer the world access to
the largest single source of information on current events, advocacy,
and resources in the study of medieval art at our Web site.
A final listing of the contributors will be soon available to the ICMA
membership and donors to the Campaign. The ICMA is especially indebted
to the National Endowment for the Humanities, whose Challenge Grant
provided critical support at the beginning of the Campaign.
Among the many generous gifts made to the general Endowment, several key endowed funds have been established:
The Robert Branner Fund
This fund honors the memory of Robert Branner (Columbia University), the scholar of French Gothic architecture
and manuscripts. It is intended to broadly support the ICMA’s programming.
The Forsyth Lectureship on Medieval Art Named in Memory of George H. Forsyth, Jr. and William H. Forsyth
This fund, established in memory of medievalists George H. Forsyth, Jr. (Professor of Fine Arts and Director of
the Kelsey Museum of Ancient and Medieval Archaeology at the University of Michigan) and William H.
Forsyth (Curator, The Metropolitan Museum of Art), is intended to sponsor a lecture by a distinguished
scholar of medieval art to be presented at multiple venues.
The Elizabeth C. Parker Fund for the Publication of Gesta
This fund, established in honor of the scholar of Romanesque art and a former editor of Gesta,
Elizabeth C. Parker (Professor Emerita, Fordham University), is intended to contribute towards subsidizing
the publication of Gesta, the scholarly journal of the International Center of Medieval Art.
The Stephen K. Scher Fund for Publications
This fund has been established in honor of a long-standing leader in the ICMA and scholar
of Renaissance portrait medals, whose constancy and foresight has been a major contributor
to the organization’s success. The fund is designed to support the publication of monographs
on medieval art through the Publications of the International Center of Medieval Art series.
The Harvey Stahl Memorial Lecture Fund
This fund, has been established in memory of the scholar of French Gothic Art, Harvey Stahl
(Professor, University of California at Berekely), and is intended to subsidize a lecture on
medieval art on a regular basis. It is hoped that the lecture will have at least two venues,
preferably west of the Mississippi and with a regular presence in the state of New Mexico.
The Marilyn J. Stokstad Fund for Symposia on Medieval Art
This fund has been established by a former President of the International Center of Medieval Art,
Marilyn J. Stokstad (Professor Emerita, University of Kansas), and is intended to support symposia
on medieval art organized by individual and/or institutional members of the ICMA.
The George Zarnecki Fund
This unrestricted fund, aimed to broadly support the ICMA’s programs, has been established
in honor of the scholar of Romanesque art, George Zarnecki, CBE, FBA (Professor and former deputy
director of the Courtauld Institute of Art).
