Joining ICMA

Founded in 1956 in Paris and housed since 1964 in New York, the ICMA has members in twenty countries worldwide. Its international membership of academics, museum professionals, collectors, and enthusiasts of the art of the Middle Ages is vital to its mission.

Membership brings personal rewards:

ICMA members receive Gesta, the premier scholarly journal for the history of medieval art (two issues annually).

Members receive the ICMA Newsletter, which delivers timely information about current issues and events in the world of medieval art (three issues annually).

ICMA's web site now provides access to our international census of dissertations in medieval art over the last 30 years, to PRIMA, a listing of sources for photographic images of medieval art, and to the work of the Limestone Sculpture Provenance Project. The web site will shortly have sections for members only, that will give access to the full past run of Gesta as well as to extensive current news and announcements.

Members receive invitations to ICMA-sponsored receptions and special events at conferences and international congresses.

Members receive discounts on ICMA publications: past and special issues of Gesta; volumes in the ongoing Census of Medieval Sculpture in American Collections; and individual ICMA Monographs, most recently Alyce Jordan's fine 2002 volume, Visualizing Kingship in the Windows of Sainte-Chapelle.

Membership in the ICMA is also an investment in the very field of medieval art itself. Members' dues fund Gesta, the Newsletter and web site, support the publications series, subvent public lectures and events, and sustain ICMA-sponsored sessions at major international congresses.
